1898 The Hundred Days' Reform is started by Emperor Guangxu of China with a plan to change social, political, & educational institutions in China, but is suspended by Empress Dowager Cixi after 104 days. The failed reform, though, led to the abolition of the Imperial Examination in 1905.
1903 A group of Serbian officers stormed the royal palace and assassinated King Alexander Obrenovic of Serbia & his wife, Queen Draga.
